This 6 ft 2 in MMA athlete was born on the 14th of April 1975 in São Paulo, Brazil. Named as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, this gentleman began training jiu-jitsu as a child. He followed that up with Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Capoeira. Upon discovering that he was good at martial arts, he decided to start fighting competitively. The Spider (his nickname) made his professional debut in Brazil in 1997. Yes, he is one of the oldies in the game. An accurate striker, this Brazilian-American began fighting in the Pride Fighting Championships in 2002.

Carving a name for himself in Pride’s history, this fighter then competed at the Cage Rage Championships. He debuted at Cage Rage in 2004 and remained with them until April 2006, when he signed with the UFC. Debuting at Ultimate Fight Night 5 on 28 June 2006 against Chris Leben, he made his mark on the entire UFC universe when he ended the fight in just 49 seconds. As someone who remained with them until 2020, the Spider went on to win 34 of his fights, with 22 of those coming via KO. Whilst UFC is sad to see him go, we are content knowing that this man changed the game with his accurate and fierce striking.
