A native of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, Dani moved to Portugal with his mother and siblings at the age of five. During his formative years, he trained at the academies of Arsenal 72, Estoril and Benfica. Interestingly he signed his first professional contract with Italian club Parma after Benfica decided against adding the midfielder to their ranks. It wasn’t a bed of roses to begin with, as Dani had to be on the move constantly to seek regular first-team opportunities. He played in a number of different countries: in Super League Greece for Aris FC; Eredivisie for Roda; and back in Primeira Liga with Marítimo. The 2015/16 season would mark a major milestone in his career with a move to FC Porto. The powerful midfielder cemented his place in Dragões starting-XI and would go on to feature in over 200 games. Six years at Porto bore fruit to two Primeira Liga championships and Taça de Portugal. In the summer of 2020, the Portuguese footballer signed for Ligue 1 club PSG in a deal worth €16 million.
