A reliable centre-back who isn't afraid to put his body on the line, Carlos is both nimble and aggressive at the same time. He is fully conscious of positional play, and his defensive awareness thwarts out attacks for his team. Born in the Barra Bonita municipality of São Paulo, he began his career with América's youth team in 2009. A year later, DC moved to Desportivo Brasil and also spent time away at São Paulo on loan. Already eligible to play as a senior, the final year of his time with them was split between Paulista and Madureira on loan. Sold to Estoril in July 2014, the centre-back was loaned out to Portuguese club FC Porto to gain some valuable experience. Diego moved back to his parent club for a season before making a permanent move to Europe with French Ligue 1 club Nantes. After three seasons with Les Canaris the Brazilian was bought by La Liga outfit Sevilla in 2019. DC cemented his place in the first-team from the get go and barely missed a game during his tenure at the club. The defender was a big part of Sevilla's 2019/20 Europa League winning campaign. In the summer of 2022 he joined English club Aston Villa for a hefty fee of €31 million.
