Player Bio

The man who made that infamous no-look catch with his bare hands to save a TV reporter from being badly hurt is the player in question here. Longo, as he's fondly known, was Born on October 7, 1985, in Downey, California. This young man went to Downey, California's St. Raymond Catholic School at first. However, he graduated from Bellflower, California's Saint John Bosco High School. Longo was a member of the Rio Hondo Community College baseball team, where he played shortstop. For his sophomore year, he transferred to Long Beach State University after they offered him a scholarship. In the 2006 Major League Baseball draft, he was chosen third overall by the Tampa Bay Rays and received a $3 million signing bonus from them. He has played for the Hudson Valley Renegades of Single-A, the Visalia Oaks of Double-A, the Montgomery Biscuits of Double-A, and the Durham Bulls of Triple-A in the minor leagues. A three-time All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove Award winner, he was handed his MLB debut by the Tampa Bay Rays on April 12, 2008. Longo has been with his current team, the San Francisco Giants, since 2018.
