Player Bio
A starting pitcher for the New York Mets, this player was born on June 19, 1988, in DeLand, Florida. He was raised in Florida by his parents, Tony and Tammy, and attended Calvary Christian Academy, where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. DeGoat, as he is affectionately called, went undrafted out of high school in the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. As a result, he enrolled at Stetson University and became a member of the Hatters. His talent was seen by MLB scouts, albeit slowly, and he was picked by the New York Mets in the ninth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft as a pitcher as the 272nd overall pick. The New York Mets assigned him to the Rookie-level Appalachian League's Kingsport Mets. Sadly, an injury cut short his time with them. However, he recovered and went on to pitch for the Savannah Sand Gnats of the Class A South Atlantic League and the St. Lucie Mets of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. DeGrominator was promoted to the major leagues by the Mets on May 12, 2014, and made his major league debut against the New York Yankees on May 15. A two-time NL strikeout leader, DeGrominator has been with them since.
