Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, the young boy aspired to be a footballer like his father Chícharo who played football professionally in Mexico and would represent the Mexican national team 28 times over the span of his career. At 9 years of age he joined C.D. Guadalajara, coming up through the ranks to sign his first professional contract with the club in 2006 when he was 15 years old. He made a total of 79 appearances for C.D. Guadalajara, with 29 goals and 11 assists to his name. He won the Mexican Primera División, aka the Apertura, in 2006. In 2010 he won the Balón de Oro, awarded to the best striker in the Mexican Primera División with an astonishing 21 goals in just 28 appearances. The striker made his FIFA World Cup debut in 2010, he came off the bench to score as Mexico went on to beat France in their group fixture; he would grab another goal in the Round of 16 against Argentina, but Mexico would be eliminated after losing the game 3-1. In July 2010 Manchester United would finalize a deal with the Mexican forward, securing his services. He made his debut and scored in Manchester United's win against Chelsea in the 2010-11 Community Shield. In May, during the thrilling climax of the Premier League season, he scored the opening goal in just 36 seconds against Chelsea to leave United one point away from winning the title. His first season with the club was an overwhelming success, with 20 goals in 45 appearances. He would finish the 2010-11 season winning the Premier League title and the 'Matt Busby Player of the Year' award. In 2011 he guided Mexico to win the CONCACAF Gold Cup, winning personal accolades as the tournaments MVP and Golden Boot. His exploits with Manchester United would continue over the next 3 seasons, scoring 39 goals in 107 appearances, while adding another Premier League title to his trophy cabinet in 2012-13. With the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson he fell out of favour at Manchester United and would sign for Real Madrid on loan for the 2014-15 season, scoring 9 goals in 33 appearances. His time at Manchester came to an end in 2015 when he signed with German Bundesliga outfit Bayern Leverkusen. In Germany he was back to his brilliant best, with 39 goals to his name in 76 appearances, winning the Bundesliga 'Player of the Month' on 5 different occasions over two seasons. On July 2017, the Mexican superstar made his return to the Premier League with West Ham United, becoming the highest paid player in the clubs history. In February 2019 he scored his 50th Premier League goal making him the first Mexican to reach that milestone.
