The Greek Lightning had his career path chosen for him as soon as he decided to play football. Being the nephew of a legend came with its own set of perks. Uncle Stylianos, aka Stelios, had carved out the path for him, and he followed it flawlessly. A centre back by profession, it's no surprise that he picked up his position on the pitch from his uncle. This was a man he emulated so much, and uncle Stelios was instrumental in his career progression as well. Our defender got the opportunity to play for AEK Athens when he was scouted into the team by none other than, you guessed it, his uncle. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and proved himself to be a solid player with the capital side before making the switch to Olympiacos in 2012. AEK were debt-ridden at that time, and it was logical for him to make that move. He spent a couple of seasons with Olympiacos and decided to try the Serie A. He signed with AS Roma in 2014 and played for the side for 5 full seasons. The start of 2019-20 season saw him move to Napoli with whom he has penned a five-year deal. Internationally, he plays for the Greek national team. He has also played for his country at the Under-21 level.
