He joined the youth academy of Sheffield United in 2004 at the age of fifteen. He signed his first professional contract at the club in 2007 and was sent on loan to Sheffield FC the very same year. In January 2009 he made the remarkable step to the Hungarian League and joined Ferencváros, which is a sister club of Sheffield United. He went together with his English friend Sam Wedgbury to gain some first-team experience in the world of football. Sadly enough for The Monster of Chesterfield this did not really happen, since he only played 5 official games in the jersey of Ferencváros - mostly coming in the field as a substitute. He then moved back to Sheffield United, who were playing in the Championship by then. He made his official breakthrough at the club in 2010 and became a regular in the first team. In July 2012 he completed a move to Aston Villa for a fee of 3 Million Pound - by playing in the Premier League one of his biggest dreams became a reality. He made his BPL debut in August 2012 in the game against West Ham United. In July 2013 he signed a new and improved long-term contract at the club un till 2017. In the summer of 2015 Burnley signed Lowton on a three-year deal. He decided to take a step back to the Championship, but he saw the potential of this beautiful club. He made his Burnley debut in October 2015 against Nottingham Forrest. In his first season he would become one of the most important players of Burnley and play 27 games in the first team. That season Burnley won the Championship title and promoted back to the Premier League!
