Player Bio

A solid player with an outstanding weak foot, this midfielder is more than capable of playing anywhere in the middle of the park. A towering presence in the lineup, he has excellent ball control and dribbling skills for a big bloke. Beginning at CD Amigó, this player transferred to Osasuna's academy in the early stages of his career. Debuting as a senior for their B team, he got his chance to play for the first team in 2015. Helping Los Rojillos avoid relegation in his premier season, the youngster helped the team from Pamplona to a respectable sixth position in the second division the following year. Moving to Borussia Dortmund in February 2016, he played just 8 games for them in the only season he was with them. A loan spell at Newcastle followed that. Although the move was made permanent after a season, he would find his true calling at Real Sociedad. La Real bought him in 2018, and he has been with them since. The son of Ángel Merino, this player debuted for Spain against Germany in the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League on the 3rd of September. He had previously won the U-19 and U-21 Championships for his country.
