A two-time World Series champion, Mookie, was born on October 7, 1992, in Smyrna, Tennessee. This former Boston Red Sox player attended John Overton High School in Nashville, where he was a standout basketball player who also excelled in bowling. Despite signing a letter of intent to attend the University of Tennessee on a baseball scholarship, the youngster retracted his commitment after the Boston Red Sox selected him as a 2nd baseman in the fifth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft with the 172nd overall pick. Mookie appeared in one game for the GCL Red Sox of the rookie Gulf Coast League in 2011. In 71 games for the short-season Lowell Spinners of the New York–Penn League in 2012, he batted.267 and stole 20 bases. He also appeared in 16 games for the Arizona Fall League's Surprise Saguaros. Mookie Batts began the 2014 season with the Double-A Eastern League's Portland Sea Dogs before being promoted to the Triple-A International League's Pawtucket Red Sox. On June 28, 2014, this five-time All-Star was promoted to the Boston Red Sox and made his MLB debut on June 29 of that year. This MLB player was traded by the Red Sox to the Los Angeles Dodgers on February 10, 2020. The Dodgers signed Mookie to a 12-year contract extension through the 2032 season on July 22.
