Player Bio
Ando was born in Crosby, Minnesota, on July 5, 1990. He is a Major League Baseball pitcher who now pitches for the Tampa Bay Rays. Brainerd High School in Brainerd, Minnesota, is the young man's alma mater. He spent three years playing college baseball at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, before transferring to NAIA Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota, for his final year in 2012. Ando was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. However, he did not sign with the Brewers and spent three seasons in the Frontier League, an independent baseball league. In 2013 and 2014, he was a member of the Rockford RiverHawks/Aviators, and in 2015, he was a member of the Frontier Greys. The Minnesota Twins bought the youngster's contract in August 2015. In 2015, he appeared in nine games for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Following this, he played for the Cedar Rapids Cedars and the Fort Myers Miracle in 2016. He split 2017 between Fort Myers and the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Rochester Red Wings were his team for the 2018 season. The youngster made his major league debut for the Marlins against the Colorado Rockies after they bought him in November 2018. Ando remained with them for just a season before going to the Tampa Bay Rays.
