Born in Stuttgart, Germany, he began his footballing prospects at an early age and had a nomadic youth career spanning 6 different clubs in his native land before his move to England to join Arsenal’s youth academy to complete the later phase of his development. On 26 September 2012, the German winger made his debut for The Gunners in a 6-1 win over Coventry City in a League Cup fixture. The youngster only made 18 appearances for Arsenal, with injuries and a lack of belief from the club stunting his development. After a hugely unsuccessful loan spell at fellow Premier League club West Bromwich Albion, he decided to return to Germany to revive his faltering career. On 31 August 2016, the Sergeant signed for Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, and waged a successful campaign scoring 11 goals in 27 appearances. On 11 June 2017, the winger got his big move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. He was initially sent on loan to 1899 TSG Hoffenheim to gain more experience playing regular first-team football. The Sergeant continued his excellent form from Bremen, totalling 17 goals assists in 26 appearances, helping Hoffenheim to a third place finish in the league. On 1 September 2018, he made his debut for the Bayern in a 3-0 win over boyhood club Stuttgart. His debut season in Bayern Munich saw him finish as the club’s second top scorer, as FC Hollywood won the domestic double of Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
