Player Bio
The Yazmanian Devil is a Cuban-American professional baseball catcher for Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox. He was born in Havana, Cuba, on November 8, 1988. At the age of ten, he moved to the United States with his mother, stepfather, and maternal grandparents. The Cuban student went to Miami Springs High School in Miami Springs, Florida. Despite being picked in the 27th round by the Boston Red Sox out of high school, he did not sign with them because he did not believe they provided him with an appropriate offer. The youngster played college baseball for the Miami Hurricanes at the University of Miami. In the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, the Cincinnati Reds picked the Yazmanian Devil in the first round with the 12th overall pick. That year, he debuted for the Arizona League Reds. He has also played for the Class A Bakersfield Blaze, the Double-A Carolina Mudcats, and the Triple-A Louisville Bats whilst with the Cincinnati Reds. Following the 2011 season, he also played for the Arizona Fall League's Phoenix Desert Dogs. He made his major league debut on June 2, 2012, for the Padres after they bought him in December 2011. He has also spent three seasons with the Dodgers and a year with the Brewers before signing with the White Sox on November 21, 2019.
