The Cuban Missile is a Major League Baseball pitcher who now pitches for the New York Yankees. He was born in the province of Holguin, Cuba, on February 28, 1988. At the age of 15, a friend urged him to join a local baseball team. He started out as a first baseman before the coach realized he could throw well enough to pitch. That is how the Missile came to be. He joined the Cuban National Series League's Holguin Sabuesos in 2006 whilst in Cuba. He also competed for Cuba in the Pan American Games in 2007 and the World Baseball Classic in 2009. After defecting from the country, this pitcher and the Cincinnati Reds reached an agreement on a long-term contract. The Missile made his professional debut with the Louisville Bats in the minor league. His major league debut came on August 31, 2010, against the Brewers. This 7-time All-Star was sent to the New York Yankees on December 28, 2015, by the Reds. He stayed with them until the Yankees sold him to the Cubs in July of 2016. In December that year, he resigned with the Yankees. The Missile did have the last laugh because he became a World Series champion during his short stint with the Cubs.
