Player Bio

Born on June 24th, 1999, in Artigas, Uruguay, native clubs La Luz, San Miguel de Artigas, and Peñarol were instrumental during his developmental years. Núñez signed his first professional contract with Uruguayan Primera División outfit Peñarol in 2017, but struggled with injuries and as a result only made sporadic appearances for the first team. It wasn't until the 2019/20 season when a move to Segunda División club Almería saved his faltering career. A successful campaign saw the striker net 16 goals in 30 games which paved the way for a move to Portuguese super-club SL Benfica. In September 2020, the Super Eagles paid €24 million for the centre-forwards signature, and despite a slow start in his debut season, A Fera blew all his doubters out of the water with a sensational return of 34 goals from 41 games in all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign. The star of the show were his two goals against European royalty Liverpool. The Premier League giants had seen enough of the Portuguese powerhouse to launch an explosive €100 million bid which saw Núñez move to England in the summer of 2022.
