The Brazilian full-back has been a constant fixture for Leverkusen on the left flank since half a decade. He found it difficult to nail on a permanent spot in the first few years of his career. However, a season at Londrina proved to be the stepping stone as it gave him the much needed confidence and experience. He made his debut for his current club in August 2014, replacing Sebastian Boenisch for the last 19 minutes of a 6–0 win away to sixth-tier SV Alemannia Waldalgesheim in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. His Bundesliga debut came in September, playing the entirety of a 1–4 hammering against VfL Wolfsburg. In mid March he scored his first goal for the club, opening a 4–0 home win over VfB Stuttgart. Wendell has represented his country in both U-20 and U-23 levels. But, he has not been able to break into their senior squad due to the presence of legendary full backs Marcelo and Felipe Luiz and the recent emergence of Alex Sandro and Alex Telles. An tenacious dribbler with blistering pace, the left back has been tormenting the league’s best for years and doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon!
