Life is not going to be the same for you after you’ve looked at this article. At wtfoot, we’ve made a few comparisons, and we’re going to share our findings with you.
Over the weekend, when we were done watching all the games, we had a few hours to spare before we could call it a day. That’s when we thought of this idea. Do footballers have lookalikes? What if those doppelgangers of our favorite footballers were cartoon characters? Was it even possible?
As it turns out, it was. The results are remarkable. Here’s our top ten list of footballers who look like cartoon characters.
10. Kylian Mbappé & Michelangelo – The most desired turtle
Kylian Mbappe is the world’s most desired footballer, but did you know that his resemblance to Michelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is uncanny? Just like Mikey, our man provides us with comic relief. What are we to do if people call him a generational talent at 22 years old? We laugh.
9. Franck Ribery & Scar
Thanks to Ribéry’s childhood accident, he has earned himself a spot on this list. Take a look at the image of Scar and his side by side. We don’t think this needs to be explained. But unlike the Disney villain, our footballer is a complete gent and is the hero of quite a few triumphs for club and country.
8. Wayne Rooney & Shrek – The oldest of them all
It was this man who started the comparison game for almost all of us. Wayne Rooney is the Shrek, and no, that’s not disrespectful. Just like the green ogre, Wayne’s very territorial and has a never-say-die attitude about himself. Does that make Coleen, Fiona?
7. Mesut Özil & Gollum – The bug-eyed brute
Mesut Özil’s peripheral vision is admirable. He has his extra large eyes to thank for it. Unfortunately for him, it also makes him resemble Gollum a bit- Gollum from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Mesut isn’t going to take this too seriously, we suppose.
6. Peter Crouch & Timmeh – The Physically challenged striker
Just like Timmy Burch from South Park, Peter Crouch used to be a physically challenged player back in the day. He lacked movement, had no pace, didn’t know how to finish, and was basically put on the team sheet just so they could field eleven members.
5. Gareth Bale & Sid – Destroying toys and destroying careers
Sid Phillips and Gareth Bale have destruction in common. Whilst the cartoon character destroys his toys, Bale, on the other hand, has been found destroying his own career. Sid looks much like a younger version of Bale with his hairdo, especially.
4. José Mourinho & Timon
We were going to limit this post to just the players. But where’s the fun in that? That’s why we’ve included these two managers in this list.
José Mourinho is an animated meerkat. We think that the Tottenham boss draws comparisons to the Disney character Timon. Just like how Timon vowed to never do a good deed when he came back after dying, José has pledged to never win another trophy. He is achieving it by constantly complaining about his players, his club’s management, and a lack of funds to build the team he wants.
3. Jurgen Klopp & Garfield
Jürgen Norbert Klopp has been replaced by an orange tabby cat named Garfield in Anfield. Scratch that. Klopp is the orange cat. He always has been. You’ve been completely misled to think that he could be otherwise. He, however, has lost his ability to manipulate the boys in his team to get the results he wants. Liverpool wouldn’t be in disarray otherwise.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo – What if you were your own self in a cartoon?
None but Cristiano Ronaldo can achieve something like that. When he appeared as an animated version of himself and nutmegged Homer Simpson, the world went Ronald-Oh, along with Homer, of course.
1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – This man needs to be a cartoon
The sooner, the better. Nike tried to animate him (and numerous others) when they made that Risk Everything advert. It would be interesting to see if someone can create a caricature of him and release a comic strip or something.
On that crazy thought, we’re going to end this post.
